    In a tersely worded filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission, Books-A-Million disclosed Tuesday morning that executive v-p/chief administrative officer and company secretary Douglas Markham “was terminated” September 12. No reason was given for the dismissal.

  • MIBA Names Livingston as Interim President

    The Midwest Independent Booksellers Association announced Monday that bookseller Chris Livingston has been appointed interim president of its board after the unexpected resignation of Lanora Haradon.

  • Job Moves: September 18, 2012

    Michael P. Kelley, currently executive editor of news and features for Library Journal, has been named editor-in-chief. He replaces long-time LJ EIC Francine Fialkoff. Kelley has nine years of experience as staff editor at the New York Times and has been with LJ since 2010.

  • Bertelli Named NAIPR President, Replacing Miller

    Former commission rep Eric Miller, NAIPR's president for the past decade, has passed the baton to Eileen Bertelli, a 25-year industry veteran who has worked as a Parson Weems commission rep for the past two years. Bertelli is NAIPR's first female president.

    Gene Kucinski has been hired as director of new business development at Spry Publishing. He was most recently district manager at Solvay Pharmaceuticals.

  • Rowling Event Moved to Larger Venue After Ticketing Snafu

    It was pretty much a given that J.K. Rowling’s appearance at Lincoln Center on October 16 -- her only public event in the U.S. to promote The Casual Vacancy -- would be a tough ticket. But the situation became a bit tense for fans when an unauthorized link to purchase tickets to the event went live 12 hours before the official on-sale time.
