  • Job Moves: March 16, 2011

    Margie Chan-Yip has been named v-p of global publishing at Hasbro. Chan-Yip, who was most recently v-p of global licensing at Walt Disney Company, will be creating new ways to bring Hasbro branded stories to consumers in both print and e-book. Before Disney, Chan-Yip was at Penguin's Putnam Children's division. She has also worked for Golden Books.

  • O'Callaghan Resigns as HMH CEO

    Barry O'Callaghan, through his ownership of Riverdeep led the 2006 purchase of Houghton Mifflin and a year later the acquisition of Harcourt from Reed Elsevier, has resigned as CEO of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. He is being replaced on an interim basis by CFO Michael Muldowney. A HMH spokesperson said the board will conduct an international search for a new CEO and will consider internal and external candidates.

    Former Barnes & Noble business book buyer Dave Hathaway has joined Greenleaf Book Group as special projects manager, a newly-created position. Hathaway will contribute cross-departmentally in identifying new opportunities and trends; provide feedback on packaging, titling, cover design, author branding, and platform development; and help design merchandising and marketing strategies across channels including retail stores, the Internet and digital media.

    Elisa Rivlin has been promoted to executive v-p and general counsel of Simon & Schuster. Rivlin joined the company in 1998 as senior v-p and general counsel and handled S&S’s 1998 uncoupling from its educational, reference, and professional publishing units; the 2002 establishment of S&S Canada; S&S’s 2006 acquisition of Howard Books; and last year, the transition to the agency model for the sale of e-books.

Nolan, who starts at the entertainment agency on March 14, was most recently a literary agent at DeFiore and Company where her authors include Danica McKellar and Stephen "Steve-O" Glover. Nolan, who also worked for Barnes & Noble.com, will join Alyssa Reuben and Jason Yarn in Paradigm's literary department.

  • Walter Zacharius Dies at 87

    Walter Zacharius, founder and chairman emeritus of Kensington Publishing, died on Wednesday. He was 87. The funeral is set for Sunday at 10 a.m. at "The Riverside," at 76 Street and Amsterdam Avenue in New York. A full obituary will run in tomorrow's PW Daily.

    Denise Oswald has been named senior editor at the HarperCollins imprint, It Books. Oswald has over 15 years of experience in the industry and was most recently editorial director of Soft Skull Press. Before Soft Skull she was at Faber and Faber. She has worked with such authors as Anne Carson, Billy Corgan, and Neil LaBute.

    Author Michael Levin has been named an editor-at-large at Brown Books Publishing Group's new business books division. Levin has written, and co-written, a number of bestselling books, including Giants with Pat Summerall and Rules of Engagement with Chad Hennings.     Publisher and editor Margaret K. McElderry died on February 14 at the age of 98, and editor, publisher, anthologist, and author Janet Schulman died on February 11 at the age of 77.
