Barrel of Monkeys is the first full length work published in English by the French comics duo Florent Ruppert and Jermoe Mulot, and it is also the debut book from the new avant-garde comics publisher Rebus Books. Barrel of Monkeys is a surrealistic dark comedy which employs innovative formal techniques.

Scott is a washed-up football player who has also been abandoned by his girlfriend. When he is offered a position in a Japanese sumo training "stable," Scott embarks on a new chapter in his life. Sumo is written and drawn by Thien Pham, who also illustrated Gene Yang's Level Up. First Second will release Sumo in December.

Lerner's Carol Burrell to Move to Abrams ComicArts
Carol Burrell, editorial director of Lerner Graphic Universe since the comics and graphic novel imprint was launched in 2007, is leaving Lerner to take a senior editorial position at Abrams ComicArts and Amulet. Burrell will join Abrams in January to work with Abrams ComicArts executive director Charles Kochman.

'The Phoenix' Cancels Karl Stevens' 'Failure' Comic; Reason is Disputed
Cartoonist Karl Stevens, author of three self-published graphic novels and a 2010 finalist for the L.A. Times Book Prize for graphic novels, is reporting that Failure, his quirky weekly online comic strip on the Boston Phoenix has been cancelled for insulting an advertiser. However, The Phoenix editor-in-chief Carly Carioli emphatically denies that’s the case.

While the inhabitants seem to know Bigby and revere him, they have also captured and caged him. Fables: Werewolves of the Heartland is written by Bill Willingham and will be released by Vertigo on November 14.
