Viz’s ‘Weekly Shonen Jump’ Debuts New Era of Simultaneous Releases
Manga publisher and anime distributor Viz Media embarked on a new era of simultaneous Japanese and English manga publishing January 21 after releasing the first issue of the renamed and redesigned Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha.

DC Comics Looks to the Library Market in 2013
In a year that started with an agreement to add Library of Congress Cataloging-in-Publication data to all of its graphic novel collections, DC Comics also reported that overall sales of its graphic novels to the library market grew by “double digits” in 2012 and the publisher is looking to continue that growth in 2013.

Wonder Woman Vol. 2: Guts collects the New 52 storyline of Wonder Woman. Hades kidnaps Zola and traps her in the underworld, and Wonder Woman, with the help of the God of Love and the God of Smiths, is determined to break her out. Wonder Woman Vol. 2: Guts is written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Cliff Chiang; it will be released by DC Comics on January 15.

Curses! Foiled Again is the sequel to Foiled (2010), written by the bestselling YA prose writer Jane Yolen and illustrated by Mike Cavallaro. Aliera Carstairs is the hereditary defender of the fairy kingdom Seelie, which is under attack and only Aliera and her cousin Caroline can save it. Curses! Foiled Again was published by First Second in January.

Panel Mania: Northlanders Vol. 7
In Northlanders Vol. 7: The Icelandic Trilogy, writer Brian Wood weaves together the decades spanning crime drama of the Hauksson clan with Ulf Hauksson taking over his clan's settlement in a new land and a violent civil war years later. This is the final story arc in the series which explores the bloody origins of Iceland. Northlanders Vol. 7 is illustrated by Massimo Carnevale and will be released in January by Vertigo Comics.

7 Miles a Second was written by the legendary East Village artist David Wojnarowicz during the last years of his life before his AIDS related death in 1992. It was originally published by DC's Vertigo imprint in 1996 and follows his childhood hustling on the streets of Manhattan, through his adult life with AIDS, and his anger with the indifference of the government and health agencies. 7 Miles a Second is illustrated by James Romberger and colored by Marguerite Van Cook.

Book seven of Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, The Third Wheel, has passed the million mark in physical copies sold, according to Nielsen BookScan. Dave Sim Brings Cerebus into the Digital Age
In November, Diamond Digital, the digital comics program of Diamond Comic Distributors, began releasing all 25 chapters of Cerebus: High Society, the second volume of Dave Sim’s (and artist Gerhard’s) groundbreaking self-published graphic novel series, on a weekly basis that will continue through March 2013. This is the latest of several publishing moves around Sim and the Cerebus series.
