  • Hyperion, Disney Interactive Sign Sandra Lee to Five Book Deal

    In a deal described as a Disney/ABC strategic partnership, Hyperion and Disney Interactive Media Group have signed Food Network star and bestselling author Sandra Lee and her imprint, SL Books, to a five book deal. Hyperion publisher Ellen Archer acquired world rights.

  • Einstein and Thompson to Take Over LJK Literary

    In the wake of Larry Kirshbaum's announcement that he will be taking the top publishing job at Amazon Publishing, two of the agents at his literary agency, LJK Literary Management, will now take the reigns there. Susanna Einstein and Meg Thompson, who have been at LJK since it was founded in 2005, will now oversee the agency.

  • Associated Press to Publish Wedding Book

    The Associated Press is the latest organization to join the royal wedding book sweepstakes. The AP will publish a book of photographs next week using MyPublishers.com, the photo book self publisher. Twenty-one AP photographers are shooting the day’s events and will upload the selected pictures to MyPublisher over the weekend. Books will be available only through MyPublisher through print-on-demand with no retail distribution planned. Prices have not been set for the untitled book which will be available in hardcover plus a deluxe hardcover edition.

  • Parker Series to Continue at Penguin With New Writers

    In a deal cut by Robert B. Parker's estate, Penguin's Putnam imprint will continue to publish two of the author's most popular series -- Spenser and Jesse Stone -- under the authorship of writers Michael Brandman and Ace Atkins. The Spenser series debuted in 1974 and is made up of 39 novels; the Jesse Stone series began in 1997 and is comprised of nine novels.

  • SMP Announces Title, Pub Date for Christine O'Donnell Book

    St. Martin's Press has announced the title and pub date for its book from “Tea Party Darling” Christine O’Donnell after inking the deal last December. The house will publish Troublemaker: Let’s Do What it Takes to Make America Great Again on August 16, 2011.

  • Harper Updates Its Elizabeth Taylor Bio

    Amid the flurry of media surrounding the death of Elizabeth Taylor, the inevitable newly repackaged and updated books on the legendary star are already hitting the market. First out of the gate appears to be Ellis Amburn’s The Most Beautiful Woman in the World: The Obsessions, Passions and Courage of Elizabeth Taylor.

  • HarperCollins Acquires New Amy Tan Novel

    HarperCollins Publishers has acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to publish Amy Tan’s latest novel, The Valley of Amazement. In the U.S. the deal was negotiated by Daniel Halpern, president and publisher of Ecco, and by Tan's agent, Sandra Dijkstra of the Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency.

  • Kostova Moves to Ballantine

    Ballantine Bantam Dell has acquired a new novel by Elizabeth Kostova, author of the bestsellers The Historian and The Swan Thieves. The publisher acquired North American hardcover, paperback, audio, and e-book publication rights for the new novel, which is not yet titled, from Amy Williams of McCormick & Williams.

  • Permanent Press Looks to Reprint Anti-Nuclear Power Expose

    As Japanese authorities struggle to head off catastrophic meltdowns at their devastated nuclear power plants, the contentious debate over the future and safety of nuclear power is on the rise again here in this country. Originally published in 1980, investigative reporter Karl Grossman’s acclaimed anti-nuclear power expose, Cover Up: What You Are Not Supposed to Know About Nuclear Power (Permanent Press), has long been out of print but Permanent Press copublisher Martin Shepard is looking for publishing partners to bring out a revised edition.
