Elizabeth Harding, longtime children’s book agent and VP at Curtis Brown, has announced that she has acquired the literary agency from its co-owners, Timothy and Ginger Knowlton.
Timothy Knowlton, CEO, will step away from his role "soon," the announcement said, but will remain as chairman emeritus to assist with the transition. EVP Ginger Knowlton will remain with the agency, continuing to represent her list of children’s writers and illustrators, which includes Linda Sue Park, Kekla Magoon, Gail Carson Levine, and Wendelin Van Draanen.
“When Elizabeth first approached us about taking over the company, I nearly slapped myself in the head. It was a moment of clarity—Elizabeth's vision and expertise make her the ideal choice, and I know Curtis Brown will thrive with her at the helm,” said Timothy Knowlton in a statement. “Curtis Brown is fortunate to have her.”
Harding has been at Curtis Brown for more than 30 years. As its owner, she will continue to represent her list of children’s writers and illustrations including Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Nikki Grimes, Jane Yolen, Sally Lloyd-Jones, and the estate of Richard Scarry, among others.
Timothy Knowlton has worked at the agency since 1976, and Ginger Knowlton is "fast approaching her fortieth anniversary" there, per the announcement.
“It is an honor to be able to continue the legacy of Curtis Brown, which has such a rich history of literary excellence, and to build upon the foundation created by Tim and Ginger,” said Harding. “I’ve basically grown up at Curtis Brown over the past thirty years, and to be able to take this next step is a pinch-me moment.”
