Chris Saad, owner of Chris' Corner: Books for Kids and Teens in Philadelphia, died July 31 of complications from scleroderma disease. She was 40. Saad earned a Ph.D. in education at the University of Pennsylvania, where her studies focused on children's literature and on human sexuality education. She taught at the elementary and university level, and opened her bookstore in 1998.
