Poetry Foundation to Discontinue Programs
The Poetry Foundation announced in a press release that it will shift away from presenting and producing poetry programs after two decades, beginning with phasing out its Forms & Features workshops and the Library Book Club beginning in 2026.
In lieu of such programs, the Poetry Foundation will instead redirect its resources to “support the broader poetry ecosystem” and “strengthen the field of poetry through philanthropy,” per the release. The nonprofit’s new initiatives include the Literary Arts Fund, a coalition of philanthropic organizations pooling financial resources to increase funding for the nonprofit literary arts field.
The Poetry Foundation had previously hosted public programs for more than two decades. The announcement coincides with other recent cuts, such as the 2024 shutdown of Harriet Books, a book review micro-site launched in 2021; the elimination of the longstanding Harriet blog; and the discontinuation of the recently-launched “Poets on Translation” series.
