Spotify Launches Audiobook Recaps
Spotify is rolling out audiobook Recaps, an AI-generated feature that provides short audio summaries to help listeners resume stories after they have taken a break from listening. The tool is currently in beta on iOS for select English-language titles across all Spotify audiobook markets. Recaps function like television's "previously on" segments, summarizing only content already heard to avoid spoilers. It activates after listeners complete 15-20 minutes of a book, then updates regularly as they progress. Users tap a Recap button on the audiobook page to hear summaries matched to their listening position.
Spotify says that while the feature uses AI, it doesn't train language models on audiobook content or replicate narration. The company plans to expand Recaps to additional titles over time as it gathers user feedback.
