Industry Veterans Evans and Reid Sell Camino Books to Retire

Camino Books: For the Road Ahead in Del Mar, Calif., in San Diego’s North County, is for sale. Co-owners John Evans and Alison Reid, who have been selling books up and down the California coast for 36 years, and since 2019 in Del Mar, are retiring to, Evans told PW in an email, “read all of those books, we haven’t gotten to, of course.” Evans and Reid opened Diesel: A Bookstore in Oakland in 1989, and have over the years operated Diesel outlets in Marin County, Malibu, and Los Angeles. In 2017, the couple sold the Oakland Diesel flagship store to Brad Johnson, who re-named it East Bay Booksellers. Last year, after selling the Los Angeles Diesel store to Richard Turner, they re-named the Del Mar store that they are now selling.

“We are looking for new energy, passion and commitment to serve this wonderful community with all of its reading needs.  We will help through the transition and look forward to keeping a great bookstore in Del Mar, as the village deserves,” Evans and Reid wrote in their announcement.
