Cartoon Crossroads Presents Annual Awards
Cartoon Crossroads (CXC) presented its annual awards during its eleventh edition, which took place in and around Columbus, Ohio, between September 18–21.
Since 2015, CXC has bestowed three awards to creators, including Master Cartoonist, Emerging Talent, and Transformative Work. In 2021, the comics convention introduced a new award recognizing the contributions of non-cartoonists to the world of comics, named after the late journalist and CXC cofounder Tom Spurgeon.
This year, CXC recognized Charles Burns as Master Cartoonist; American mangaka Gigi Murakami as Emerging Talent; and Matt Feazell’s The Amazing Cynicalman for Transformative Work. Comics distributor Bud Plant received the Tom Spurgeon Award.
Originally founded in 2015 and inspired by such European comics festivals as Lucca and LICAF that take over entire towns, CXC is held for four days in Columbus every year.
