Books-A-Million Customers Donate $1.2 Million in Books to Children

Books-A-Million announced yesterday that its 11th annual summer book drive was the most successful one yet. Throughout the three-month campaign, customers at all 220 BAM stores across the country are encouraged to purchase and donate books selected in advance by their local schools, school districts, children’s hospitals, and nonprofit organizations serving children and families. More than $1.2 million worth of books were donated nationwide this summer.

“We’re proud that this annual tradition has grown into such a powerful way to connect our stores with local schools and foster lasting partnerships that support learning and literacy,” Scott Kappler, executive VP of operations told PW. “From timeless favorites such as Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein, Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones, and Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobel to exciting new favorites such as Warriors Graphic Novels: The Prophecies Begin #2 by Erin Hunter, this year’s drive offered something for every child. I think that’s why it resonated so deeply with our Books-A-Million communities—our customers understand the joy and value of gifting books of all kinds.”
