WHSmith Snags Large Footprint at JFK Airport
WHSmith North America has claimed 8,400-sq.-ft. of retail space in John F. Kennedy International Airport’s new Terminal 1 in New York City, the terminal committee has announced. In partnership with New York and New Jersey Port Authority’s Institute of Concessions (IOC), WHSmith will stake out six retail locations selling books, magazines, newspapers, and a variety of “travel essentials,” including souvenirs and food items.
WHSmith sold its bookstore division to a private equity firm earlier this year, after a decade of declining sales. Meanwhile, it has consistently thrived in the travel sector, rebranding as the “global travel retailer” in January. With the New Terminal One announcement, WHSmith North America CEO Huw Crwys-Williams said WHSmith is “marking another milestone in the travel retail space.”
Completion of the New Terminal is projected for 2030.
