Kids Ink to Change Hands After Nearly 40 Years
Shirley Mullin, a former librarian who founded Kids Ink Books and Toys in Indianapolis in 1986, has retired. On June 9, Mullin sold the store to Wendy Fitzgerald and her daughter, Kaitlyn Fitzgerald.
Wendy Fitzgerald, who recently moved to Indianapolis from Kenosha, Wis., said that both she and her daughter, a Chicago transplant, had both been downsized from their corporate jobs and were looking for new opportunities.
“We’re both book lovers, and Kaitlyn has an 18-month-old child,” Wendy Fitzgerald told PW. “We heard a rumor that Kids Ink was for sale. We got hold of Shirley, decided it was a good fit, and made the sale as quick and painless as possible."
Kids Ink, the only children’s bookstore in the city itself, will be one of the stops on the local bookstore tour during Heartland Fall Forum.
