Crazy Maple Studio Launches ReelShort Publishing House
Crazy Maple Studio—the creator of ReelShort, the first vertical streaming platform—has launched ReelShort Publishing House (RSPH), a division dedicated to novelizing the company’s most popular vertical shorts. RSPH’s first title will be an adaptation of The Alpha Queen Returns, written by Candace Heavens, slated for this month.
RSPH plans to publish 10 to 16 adaptations per month, primarily focusing on romance and titles with “strong female leads,” according to Crazy Maple Studio. RSPH’s offerings will be exclusively distributed by Amazon, with plans to expand select titles to wider distribution in the future.
At present, the publishing division plans to solely focus on adapting ReelShort’s original vertical films into novels, and is not pursuing acquisitions or submissions. As of 2024, the serialized content app has more than 200 in-house titles, most of which are “fast-paced, high-drama romances.”
“ReelShort’s immense audience has demanded more of its favorite originals, and by working with both established and emerging authors to dive deeper into these stories, we’re able to give fans the immersive experiences they crave while shining a light on literary talent,” said Tera Cuskaden, the newly promoted head of studio at RSPH.
In addition to Cuskaden, Molly Cusick has joined the division as director of licensing, and will work on acquiring serialized TV and film rights to genre fiction titles for ReelShort adaptation. RSPH operates with a dedicated team within Crazy Maple Studios, which employs over 1,000 people.
