Illinois Barnes & Noble Ratifies Union Contract
A few days after union members at three Barnes & Noble stores in New York City, including the company’s flagship store in Union Square, announced the ratification of their first union contracts with the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union, staff at the B&N location in Bloomington, Ill., announced that they too has ratified their own contact after a vote on March 8.
Like the New York City B&N contracts, this three-year contract ensures increased wages and other protections, as well as union health care coverage; appropriate safety equipment and accommodations; safety language, including de-escalation trainings; job and pay security; and new trainings, including annual anti-discrimination trainings. There are now seven unionized B&N locations in the U.S. that are represented by the RWDSU.
