Kathryn Belden, Stu Smith Up at Scribner
Kathryn Belden has been promoted to VP and editor-in-chief at Scribner. Belden, who most recently served as the Simon & Schuster imprint's VP and editorial director, joined Scribner in 2015 and has worked with such authors as Roz Chast, Kiese Laymon, Tom Perrotta, Jason Reynolds, Sarah Smarsh, Amy Stanley, Jesmyn Ward, and John Edgar Wideman. In 2024, she received the prestigious Medal for Editorial Excellence from the Center for Fiction. Previously she held positions at Bloomsbury, Four Walls Eight Windows, and Crown/Harmony.
In announcing the promotion, newly appointed Scribner VP and publisher Marysue Rucci described Belden as "renowned as an unflinching advocate for literary excellence with an interest in underrepresented voices" and "revered as a mentor across Simon & Schuster and the publishing industry."
Rucci also announced that Stu Smith has been promoted to VP and deputy publisher at Scribner. Smith most recently served as associate publisher of the imprint, and began his career at S&S in 2004. Rucci described him as "essential in Scribner's acquisitions efforts and author relations and...an invaluable ambassador for the imprint."
