Denise Oswald Promoted to VP, Editor-in-Chief of Pantheon
Denise Oswald has been promoted to VP and editor-in-chief of Pantheon.
Oswald was previously VP and editorial director at the imprint, having taken over responsibility for the Panthon list in mid-2024 following a restructure at Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group that involved the departure of former Pantheon Schocken publisher Lisa Lucas. She has worked with such house authors such as Marjane Satrapi and Antonio Damasio, and has published titles such as Clancy Martin’s Kirkus Prize Finalist How Not To Kill Yourself and Manjula Martin’s The Last Fire Season. Her forthcoming titles include Jessa Crispin’s What Is Wrong with Men and Vauhini Vara’s Searches.
Oswald began her career at FSG, where she worked for thirteen years. Prior to joining KDPG in 2021, she was executive editor at Ecco, where she oversaw the nonfiction list and worked with such authors as Benjamin Moser’s Pulitzer winning Sontag and Imani Perry’s National Book Award—winning South to America.
In her new role, Oswald will report to Doubleday and Panthon EVP and publisher Bill Thomas. Continuing to report to Oswald are Pantheon editors Naomi Gibbs, Anna Kaufman, Concepcion de Leon, Zach Phillips, and David Treuer, and editorial assistant Shanna Milkey. Oswald also oversees titles acquired for Pantheon by KDPG editors working at other imprints.
