CLMP Awards Grants to 35 Former SPD Clients
The Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP) will award $285,000 in grants to 35 literary publishers formerly distributed by Small Press Distribution (SPD), which abruptly closed in March 2024. Grant recipients from the Small Press Future Fund, made possible by the Mellon Foundation, will receive $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000 for projects that will help strengthen operations, as they recover inventory, secure new distribution and warehousing solutions, and implement improved internal systems and marketing strategies. All grant recipients will also receive a free one-year membership to CLMP.
Grants were recommended by an independent panel composed of Jisu Kim, sales and operations executive at Grove Atlantic; Olivia Taylor Smith, senior editor at Simon & Schuster; and Martin Riker, cofounder and publisher of Dorothy, a publishing project. Final grant decisions were made by CLMP and approved by a committee of the board of directors.
