Michael Pietsch Sends Farewell Note
In a memo sent to his Hachette Book Group colleagues at the end of 2024, Michael Pietsch noted that the conclusion of the year ends his one-year term as company chairman. Pietsch wrote that, after a year of travel and catching up on his reading, “I’ll return to working with writers to bring their books into the world, the most rewarding of endeavors.”
Pietsch, who joined Little, Brown in 1991, moved into the chairman role of HBG at the beginning of 2024 following the appointment of David Shelley as the CEO of the combined HBG, Hachette UK company. During his time, he observed, what once had been known as Little, Brown and Warner Books became a “vastly larger and farther-reaching group of publishers bringing books from every kind of writer to every kind of reader. You’re in excellent hands with David Shelley and Richard Kitson, and I will look forward to reading of your triumphs in the years to come.”
