Marion Garner Named Publisher at Penguin Canada
Marion Garner has been named publisher at Penguin Canada, effective January 6. She succeeds Nicole Winstanley, who left in April to lead Simon & Schuster Canada, in the position, which has been filled on an interim basis by Kristin Cochrane, CEO of PRH Canada.
Garner began her career at PRH Canada in 1996, when it was still Random House of Canada, as a sales rep. Over the course of her career at the company, she has held roles including associate publisher of Vintage Canada, associate publisher of the Knopf Random House Canada Group, and deputy publisher of PRH Canada.
Garner most recently served as VP of publishing management, in which position she “oversees our book acquisition process, and as such acts as a crucial sounding board to our editors and publishers and to me,” Cochrane wrote in a letter to staff announcing the move.
In her letter, Cochrane called Garner “one of the most trusted and accomplished publishing talents at Penguin Random House Canada, and someone highly regarded by colleagues globally and in the wider industry.” She added: “I am thrilled she was able to be persuaded, and I’m hugely grateful as well.”
Correction: An earlier version of this article described Garner as publisher at Penguin Random House Canada. She is publisher of Penguin Canada.
