Since its founding more than 20 years ago, Galaxy Press has been devoted to publishing the complete fictional works of Scientology founder and bestselling author L. Ron Hubbard, a prolific storyteller whose science fiction and fantasy tomes include Mission Earth, To the Stars, and the 1982 classic Battlefield Earth. The press has also worked to advance Hubbard’s quest to spotlight new and emerging writers and artists and to bring their work to the fore. This past April, the press released L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41, an annual anthology that brings together stories and illustrations by rising talent in speculative fiction. The contributors include winners of the Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests, which Hubbard created as part of his effort to champion new narrative voices from around the world.
Volume 41 presents 12 original stories and illustrations, all from winners of the Future Contests, which are judged by a roster of industry professionals; past judges include Orson Scott Card and Kevin J. Anderson. Highlights from this year’s anthology include “Kill Switch” by Robert F. Lowell, illustrated by Jordan Smajstrla, about an obsolete police robot, and “The Rune Witch” by Jefferson Snow, illustrated by David Hoffrichter, about the last member of a magical sisterhood. The anthology also has three bonus stories and three articles with art and writing tips from authors and artists—L. Ron Hubbard, Tim Powers, and Robert J. Sawyer, among them.
The anthology is available in both print and e-book formats and as an audiobook voiced by a multicast that includes Kirby Heyborne and Jim Meskimen. Creating dynamic listening experiences is one of the goals of Galaxy Press, which has a wide catalogue of immersive science fiction and fantasy audio offerings. There are cinematic, multi-cast productions of titles such as Battlefield Earth, To the Stars, and A Very Strange Trip, as well as the Writers of the Future anthologies, that will transport listeners to unforgettable worlds. With Volume 41, Galaxy Press continues its commitment to Hubbard’s mission to discover the best new science fiction and fantasy around while ensuring that readers are treated to an out-of-this-world reading and listening experience.
