Simon & Schuster Australia and New Zealand has appointed Jane Curry as its next managing director, effective January 19. Curry succeeds Dan Ruffino, who announced his resignation last month after more than a decade in the role. Ruffino oversaw the company's acquisition, last year, of Melbourne-based independent publisher Affirm Press.

Curry is currently managing director of Sydney-based independent publisher Ventura Press, and has held executive leadership roles at Quarto ANZ, Macmillan, and Weldon Publishing. She has also served on the boards of the Australian Copyright Agency, the Brisbane Writers Festival, and the Australian Publishers Association.

Curry will report to Perminder Mann, CEO of S&S UK & International. Mann joined S&S in May after serving as CEO of Bonnier Books.

"Her deep understanding of the local publishing landscape, from author care to market dynamics, combined with her extensive experience in distribution-driven publishing, gives her a unique and powerful perspective on how to grow and future-proof a modern publishing operation..." Mann said of Curry, in a statement. "These qualities, along with her reputation for integrity, collaboration, and strategic clarity, make her the perfect person to lead our ANZ business into its next exciting chapter."
