  • Surprise Bestseller? 'Legend of Zelda' Takes Number One Spot

    The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia was Nielsen BookScan's #1 bestseller for the week ending February 3, selling nearly 60,000 copies in its first week. A significant percentage of that number is likely preorders, as the book spent 100 days in Amazon's top 100 (many of them in the top 10) before it even released.

  • Reagan Arthur Named Publisher of Little, Brown

    Reagan Arthur has been chosen to fill the top perch at Little, Brown. Arthur, who has an eponymous imprint at LB, is filling the publisher position left open when Michael Pietsch was named CEO of Hachette in September.

  • D&M Publishers Finds Buyer for Douglas & McIntyre Imprint

    D&M Publishers announced late yesterday that it has agreed to sell its flagship imprint, Douglas & McIntyre, to the owners of British Columbia-based Harbour Publishing, Howard and Mary White. The deal comes a week after D&M, which has been in bankruptcy protection since October, found a buyer for its Greystone Books imprint, Heritage House Publishing.

  • Rodale Taps Zola Exec to Head Books Division

    Rodale Books has found a new publisher. After a number of executive shake-ups at the division, and then the departure of publisher Steve Perrine in November, Rodale has hired Mary Ann Naples to oversee its books unit.

  • Publishing Education Gets Innovative at Ooligan Press

    Ooligan Press, the student-staffed press that is part of Portland State’s publishing program, has added a recent innovation: Start to Finish, a project in which students give a behind-the-scenes look at how a book is created.

  • Filofax Joins ABFFE Affiliate Program

    The American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression has announced that Filofax has joined its affiliate program and will contribute 5% of the sales it makes from ABA member bookstores to ABFFE.

  • Frankfurt Academy Launches Publishing Management Course

    The Frankfurt Academy is teaming up with the University of St. Gallen’s mcm Institute for Media and Communications Management to launch the International Publishing Management Course.

  • Day's Crossfire Series Tops 5 Million Sold

    Bared to You and Reflected in You, the first two titles in Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series, have sold more than five million English-language copies since Bared was released seven months ago by Berkley Books. The third title in the series, Entwined with You, will be published June 4.

    Helen Fielding has a new entry in her chick lit sensation featuring single British career woman, Bridget Jones.

  • NEA Webinar to Be Held February 5

    The NEA will host a literature Art Works guidelines and application webinar on February 5 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. EST. The webinar will cover the basics of the Art Works funding category, how to apply to the NEA, and how to submit work samples. Q and A with NEA staff follows the presentation.   • Tracking Amazon: Chris Kyle Hits #1

    Hours after Chris Kyle was killed, his book American Sniper went to both #1 (mass market) and #3 (hardcover) on Amazon. It also reached #3 on the Kindle bestseller chart. The audio and trade editions have also jumped over 3,000% in Amazon's sales rankings since the news broke. To date, the book has sold nearly 350,000 copies, according to Nielsen BookScan.

  • Publishing Gains Support at Kickstarter

    Last year was a big one for publishing on Kickstarter. The Web site is the most popular crowdfunding online destination, with 1,666 projects successfully funded in the publishing category, and a total of $11,057,252 pledged. In addition, $8,482,598 was raised for comics, which are listed as a separate category. Altogether, $19.5 million was raised for publishing-related projects.
