As the search for a replacement for Simon & Schuster CEO Jonathan Karp continues, another high-ranking executive is leaving the company.
S&S Australia managing director Dan Ruffino has announced that he is resigning, effective December 12. The news came in an announcement from Perminder Mann, who took over as the new CEO of Simon & Schuster International May 1. Mann, who succeeded longtime international head Ian Chapman, had been CEO of Bonnier Books U.K. since 2017 and, like Chapman before her, oversees Simon & Schuster UK and manage its international operations, including Australia and India.
In her memo to employees, Mann wrote that until a successor is found, Ruffino's reports will report directly to her. She commended Ruffino for leading S&S Australia through a transformative period, "where the business has gone from being relatively small to become one with significant reputation and reach."
Part of the growth came from the purchase of Affirm Press in 2024. "Last week, when the Affirm team moved in with their S&S colleagues in Melbourne, signaling the integration completed, it gave me time to pause and reflect on the incredible journey we’ve been on," Ruffino said in a statement. "Now feels like the right time to hand the reins over."
In the U.S., COO Dennis Eulau announced earlier this fall he will retire from the publisher at the end of November. Eulau has been with S&S for 30 years, joining the company in 1995 as business manager for the trade division. He helped Karp guide S&S following the unexpected death of Carolyn Reidy and at one point served in the combined role of EVP, COO, and CFO.
