Digital publisher Aptara, which serves the K-12 and university markets, has hired Robin Blakely as its v-p of education. Blakely was most recently with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and has more than 25 years of editorial and publishing experience.

Chronicle Books has appointed Sarah Malarkey to the new role of executive editorial director. Formerly publishing director, Malarkey will now lead Chronicle’s adult trade editorial staff, direct the pop culture and humor publishing, and acquire key titles in those categories.

has been promoted to senior editor at Gallery Books/Pocket Books. Also at Gallery, Kate Dresser and Emilia Pisanihas have both been promoted to assistant editor.

Amanda Walker has been promoted to associate publicity director at Dutton. She has worked on such books as Jonathan Tropper’s This is Where I Leave You and Dan Savage and Terry Miller's It Gets Better.
