Media Coalition has elected Judy Platt, director of communications/public affairs and Freedom to Read at the Association of American Publishers, as its 2011 chair. Platt, who has been at AAP for more than 30 years and joined the board of Media Coalition in 1996, said, “With the voices of censorship growing ever more strident in their calls to ban or restrict ‘harmful’ speech, it’s more important than ever for us to work together to preserve our First Amendment freedoms. Media Coalition provides a perfect vehicle for this important cooperative effort.”
Chris Finan, president of the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression and outgoing chair of Media Coalition, said Platt’s “leadership and experience will enhance our efforts to fight government censorship in the courts, the legislatures, and the public arena.”
