Andi Sporkin has been named v-p of communication at the Association of American Publishers. In the newly created role Sporkin, who will be based in AAP's Washington, DC, office, will handle everything from media relations to industry branding initiatives. She will start on February 9 and report to Tom Allen, president and CEO.

Sporkin's hire comes after much talk within the AAP about the need to more effectively communicate the importance of issues like copyright, and the role publishers play in the creation professional material. Allen said, in a statement about Sporkin's addition to the team, that the organization and its members "are at the forefront of the most compelling issues and opportunities facing the content communities,” and cited intellectual property and copyright as two of the most pressing of those issues.

After working for years in print journalism, Sporkin went on to top executive spots at various media companies and was v-p of communications at NPR and also held a lenghty tenure at CBS.
