Y.S. Chi has been elected the new president of the International Publishers Association. Chi will continue to serve as vice chairman and CEO of Elsevier Science & Technology, and is also a member of the AAP board of directors. He will serve a renewable two-year term as IPA president beginning January 1, 2011.
Karen Thompson has been promoted to editor of the Simon & Schuster adult trade imprint. She will be devoting her time to acquiring her own list of books and helping the imprint to maximize and revitalize parts of its backlist by adapting titles to e-books and publishing revised editions. For the past three years, she has worked with Alice Mayhew, during which time she has worked on books by David Maraniss, Paco Underhill, Bob Woodward, and C.J. Chivers, while also beginning to develop her own list.
