The Los Angeles Times has named Jon Thurber as its new book review editor. Thurber will take over from David Ulin, who ran the section for five years and is now a book critic for the paper. Thurber will oversee a team of editors and writers who will produce reviews, features, and trend pieces for the daily paper and the paper’s Sunday Calendar sections. He will also manage the books landing page on LATimes.com and the Jacket Copy blog.

During the past year, Thurber was managing editor, print. Prior to that, he spent 11 years as obituary editor, writing more than 400 obits. In his new role, he will report to Alice Short, assistant managing editor, features.
