Penguin Random House was one of four operating groups to contribute to a 0.8% increase in revenue at parent company Bertelsmann for the first nine months of 2025. Sales hit €13.5 billion for the conglomerate and represents organic growth—measuring revenue without including sales of newly acquired or divested companies—of 1.9%.

PRH highlights in the third quarter included a strong sales performance for the debut title by SenLinYu, Alchemised, which sold more than 300,000 copies across formats in North America in its first week. On the awards side, this year’s Nobel Prize in Literature went to László Krasznahorkai, who is published by Penguin Random House in Brazil through Companhia das Letras and in Portugal through Grupo Editorial. (New Directions publishes Krasznahorkai in the U.S.)

The brief update on third quarter sales followed a mixed six months of the year in which PRH revenue rose slightly, but operating earnings fell 12%. Bertelsmann’s update did not include any mention of how profits fared in the quarter for the entire company. The company said it expects total profit in the year of more than €1 billion.
