Univ. of Texas Launches Blog for Recipes from Cookbook Collection
The University of Texas at San Antonio has created a bilingual blog, La Cocina Histórica, to showcase recipes from its collection of more than 1,000 Mexican, Texan, and Southwestern cookbooks, some of which date back to the 1700s.

Hesser and Batali to Dish in NYC
Amanda Hesser, whose Essential New York Times Cookbook was one of this holiday's biggest hits, and chef Mario Batali will talk about food, cooking and eating a lot at the JCC in Manhattan on Wednesday, January 12. Information is available at here.

STC Gets More ‘Good Eats'
Abrams's Stewart, Tabori & Chang imprint bought world rights to the third, and final, entry in Alton Brown's book series based on his Food Network show, Good Eats. Leslie Stoker, senior v-p and publisher of STC, brokered the deal for Good Eats 3: The Later Years with Eric Lupfer at William Morris Endeavor. According to STC, the first book in the series, Good Eats: The Early Years, spent 13 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list in 2009, and the imprint has sold over one million books by Brown in total. GE3 is scheduled for fall 2011.

What to Make for the Apocalypse
You may be just getting used to 2011, but 2012--and the end of the world--is just around the corner! What to make? Why, something from The Apocalypse Cookbook, of course. Be warned, though: the book apparently "pokes fun at America's love for cookbooks." As if this is something we should be ashamed of?

Laurie David: Your New Year's Resolution?
The New Yorker shared some nuggets from Laurie David's recent book signing for The Family Dinner (Grand Central Life & Style) at an Anthropologie in New York. David apparently makes a big deal out of family dinner at her home every night, with games, conversation, and--oh, right!--food.
