Cake Boss Takes Wegmans
Buddy Valastro, a.k.a. the Cake Boss, hung out with bakers at Wegmans in Fairfax, Va., on November 9. More than 800 people attended showed up to meet Valastro, whose Cake Boss: Stories and Recipes from Mia Famiglia is just out from Free Press, and buy signed copies.
Channeling Ina in Ann Arbor
The Borders Support Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., recently hosted a Barefoot Contessa Cooking Contest to celebrate the release of Ina Garten’s new book, Barefoot Contessa How Easy is That? After intense deliberation by the three judges, three winners were chosen: Best Appetizer/Starter: Matt Nelson for his Butternut Squash Soup; Best Main Dish: Sarah Valovich for her Mustard Chicken Salad; and Holly Diener for her Apple Pear Crisp. Foodie ABC in Savannah
Savannah illustrator Violet Lemay signed copies of her book My Foodie ABC: A Little Gourmet's Guide (duopress) recently at the Savannah Children's Book Festival. The book features an alphabet’s worth of food items for young readers. PW’s review said, “With cheery pastel-hued artwork, phonetic spellings (when needed), and a striking variety of foodstuffs, it should easily whet readers’ appetites."
