Colman Andrews to Head The Daily Meal
Last week, Spanfeller Media Group announced the name, editorial director, and launch date for its new food site. James Beard Award winning cookbook author and Saveur co-founder Colman Andrews will lead The Daily Meal, which will go live October 15. Food and travel expert Valaer Murray is on board as managing editor. According to a release, The Daily Meal will “create a complete food experience for cooks, food lovers, wine connoisseurs, discerning diners and everyone in between.” The site has also hired Always Hungry founder and editor-in-chief Jeff Zalaznick as its national restaurant editor--and it bought Zalaznick's site (it will incorporate AH's existing content and editorial team into the Daily Meal).

'Modernist Cuisine' Delayed
Molecular gastronomists now have a bit more time to save up for Nathan Myhrvold's $625 Modernist Cuisine: last week, the New York Times announced that the book's publication has been delayed, from December 2010 to March 2011. Apparently proofreading and packaging the six-volume, 2,400-page behemoth is taking a bit more time than expected.
Nick and Martha
Nick Malgieri, author of Bake! (Kyle Books) visited the Martha Stewart Show on September 22 for a special show featuring teachers. Malgieri was the cooking teacher and did two segments. He showed Stewart how to make "quick puff pastry" in two minutes, and then made three desserts with the pastry dough.
