Foodista Best of Blogs Winners Announced
Foodista and Andrews McMeel Publishing announced the winners of The Foodista Best of Food Blogs Cookbook contest on September 2. From December 1, 2009 through February 28, 2010, food bloggers worldwide were invited to submit their favorite blog posts, recipes, and photos to compete for a spot in a published cookbook. After receiving 1,500+ submissions, which were then voted on by the Foodista community, the selection process shifted into what AMP calls “a more traditional editorial effort,” to choose and edit the final 100 entries. The book will be published October 19. To see the list of winners, click here.
Peter Meehan on Cookbooks and Chang
Former New York Times $25 and Under columnist Peter Meehan is the go-to coauthor for cookbooks from some of today's most popular chefs, including David Chang, Thomas Keller, Frank Falcinelli, and Frank Castronovo. Here's a terrific Q&A with him on Eater, where he explains the impact cookbooks had on his career.
Gwynnie Moves Cookbooks
Move over, Oprah: Gwyneth Paltrow is gaining on you as the latest influential cookbook mover. The actor gushed over Amy Pennington’s Urban Pantry: Tips and Recipes for a Thrifty, Sustainable and Seasonal Kitchen in her newsletter, GOOP, and, what do you know, the book, published in April by Skipstone Press in Seattle, landed in Amazon's top 100. The Christian Science Monitor has the scoop.
Whatever You Do, Don't Call It 'Mouthwatering'
Cookbook author Nancy Baggett posted her three biggest dos and don'ts for cookbook authors who are writing introductions to their recipes on her blog last week. Among Baggett's recommendations: avoid "delicious" and "mouthwatering"; they're as overused and pointless as "tour de force" is in fiction reviewing.
'NYT' on Omnivore Books on Food
The New York Times takes a look at San Francisco specialty cookbook shop Omnivore Books on Food, covering owner Celia Sack's recent deal with Williams-Sonoma, among other things. We're longtime fans of the shop, so kudos to Celia. Keep up the awesome work!
