    Bestselling Christian author John Eldredge has moved houses, signing a multi-book contract with Hachette's FaithWords division. Eldredge will release Loving Jesus, the first book under the new contract, in September 2011.

    Author and former president of Penguin Group Canada David Davidar has written a new novel that is set in the world of international book publishing. The book is slated to be published in Canada by McClelland & Stewart in the fall of 2011. Canada is the first territory where rights have been sold by U.K. agent David Godwin.

  • Former Herald Book Editor Pens Votive Mystery

    Votive portraits featuring the artist's patrons were common in religious paintings of the 15th century. Votive literature in the 21st century, not so much. But in her debut mystery novel, Front Page Teaser, Rosemary Herbert does exactly that. The former Boston Herald book review editor, who edited several mystery anthologies, pays tribute to Mary Higgins Clark, who encouraged her to write a book of her own.

    Simon & Schuster has just signed a new memoir by actress Candace Bergen--sort of. In an odd twist, the new book, which is scheduled to drop in 2012 from the house's flagship imprint, has technically been under contract for 23 years.

  • North Patterson Moves to Scribner; Senior Signs With Ecco

    Bestseller Richard North Patterson has moved houses, signing a two-book deal with Scribner. Susan Moldow, executive v-p and publisher of the Simon & Schuster imprint inked the deal for North American rights with Patterson's agent, Frederick Hill. Patterson was at Holt.

    Disney and Offspring Entertainment have bought film rights to Ally Condie's Matched, a futuristic fantasy novel that Dutton is publishing in November, and Stacy Whitman at Lee & Low Books has acquired the first two novels for its Tu Books imprint.

  • Houghton to Publish 'Mysteries of Harris Burdick' Spinoff

    One Pulitzer Prize, five Newbery Medals, three Newbery Honors, two Caldecott Medals, one Caldecott Honor, three National Book Awards, and five Coretta Scott King Awards. This is just a partial list of accolades that have been bestowed upon the contributors to a book due from Houghton Mifflin in fall 2011.

  • Bloomsbury to Publish Memoir by Irish President

    Bloomsbury USA has acquired North American rights to Everybody Matters, a memoir by human rights activist Mary Robinson. Agent Lynn Franklin, of Lynn C. Franklin Associates, brokered the deal for Robinson, who was also the first female President of Ireland, in office from 1990-1997.
