Omar El Akkad Wins the C$100,000 Giller Prize

Last night, Omar El Akkad was announced as the winner of the Scotiabank Giller Prize for his novel 'What Strange Paradise.' The prize is Canada's top award for English-language fiction.
South African Damon Galgut Wins 2021 Booker Prize

South African novelist Damon Galgut was awarded the 2021 Booker Prize for his novel 'The Promise,' published by Europa Editions. The novel follows the lives of three white siblings brought together by a series of funerals that follow the trajectory of the history of post-apartheid South Africa.
Abdulrazak Gurnah Wins 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature

The U.K.-based English-language Tanzanian novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah has won the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature for “his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents.” He is the fifth English-language writer to win the Nobel Prize in the past decade.

Mellon, Flamboyan Foundations Launch Fellowship for Puerto Rican Writers
