Spotify has launched Audiobooks+, a subscription add-on service, in 11 international markets following trials in Ireland and Canada. The service is now available to Spotify Premium subscribers in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.
Audiobooks+ provides Premium Individual subscribers and Family and Duo plan managers with an additional 15 hours of monthly audiobook listening time beyond their base plan allocation. The add-on targets users seeking extended listening time, particularly for longer audiobook titles.
Pricing varies by market. In Canada, the service costs CAD $14.99 for 15 additional monthly hours. Ireland's pricing stands at €12.99 for the same allocation, while New Zealand charges NZD $19.99. The U.K. offers a 10-hour package for £9.99. One-time top-ups typically cost between $9.99 and $12.99 USD equivalent, with 12-month validity periods from purchase dates.
In addition, Spotify has enabled members on Premium Family and Duo plans to access audiobook content. Plan members must request access from their plan manager, who purchases the add-on on their behalf. Users can also purchase one-time 10-hour top-ups when monthly allocations are exhausted before billing cycles reset.
Spotify Premium subscriptions include varying base audiobook allowances depending on geographic location. The U.S., U.K., Canada, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand receive 15 monthly hours, while France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein receive 12 hours. For Family and Duo plans in most markets, only plan managers receive included hours. In all markets, unused monthly hours expire at month-end and do not carry forward to subsequent billing periods.
Users access the service through Spotify's existing mobile and web applications. It supports both local language and English audiobooks in applicable markets, with content availability varying by regional licensing agreements.
Neither service is yet available in the U.S.
