Yummly, a search engine that contains about 600,000 free recipes, has raised $6 million in Series A funding led by Physic Ventures and Unilever Corporate Ventures. Among its previous investors making additional contributions is the Harvard Commons Press.

Yummly is currently supported by advertising and at present no cookbook publishers, including Harvard Common Press, have supplied their recipes to the site. HCP’s Adam Salomone noted that its investment in Yummly “is very much about our content initiatives and finding ways to reinvent the recipe business, especially related to how recipes are created, distributed and monetized.”

Yummly says it is now has 4 million unique visitors a month, and also launched a Facebook app. The new funding will be used for hiring and product development.
