Looking to accelerate the adoption of the ePub 3 standard as a universal digital publishing platform, Hachette Livre, (inlcuding the Hachette Book Group and Hachette UK) is joining the Readium Project, an open source reference system and rendering engine for ePub publications developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum.
EPub 3 is the latest version of the open source e-book production standard developed by the IDPF. The goal of the Readium Project is to make sure that open source software tools are available for working with ePub 3 and to speed its adoption as the standard for digital publishing production. Hachette senior digital technology officer Pierre Danet said “Hachette Livre’s technology teams are excited about participating in the design of the “missing link” that will enable ePub3 adoption with open source software.”
