Demibooks, Inc., the Chicago-based digital publishing technologies company, has announced the launch of Demibooks Composer in the App store. Composer is an iPad-based software platform for creating children’s interactive book apps with realistic physics, animation, sounds and visual effects.

The Composer platform, which was previewed at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco last week, leverages the iPad’s touch interface, sound recording ability and camera with an advanced set of special effects. Authors can animate objects, activate functions based on touch-gestures and assign real-life properties to objects, such as gravity or stickiness, to make them float, collide or bounce. Other features allow authors to layer in audio and other special effects within the story’s plot to create a truly interactive reading experience.

Demibooks CEO Rafiq Ahmed adds, “Digital storytelling is evolving in incredible new ways. We created the Composer platform to let anyone compose their own interactive books. Publishers keep creative control while dramatically reducing development costs. Self-published authors and illustrators finally enter the market with business models that work. We will continue building on our platform and look forward to sharing more developments in the near future.”

Composer is available for free download from the App store at http://bit.ly/getcomposer for a limited introductory period. The Demibooks® PrintShop service will provide authors the ability to publish their book apps to the App Store starting at $499.
