As book printers look to move beyond just manufacturing print products, R.R. Donelley has acquired LibreDigital, the e-book distributor and provider of other digital services. "Adding LibreDigital's proven, innovative capabilities to our digital content creation and delivery platform will enable us to offer our publishing, retail, e-reader provider and other customers an even broader selection of services," said Donnelley president Thomas Quinlan III in a statement.
LibreDigital’s services supports the e-reading supply chain with electronic preparation, distribution and engagement services and will expand Donnelley’s ability to distribute both print and digital products, said Donnelley COO John Paloian. LibreDigital also provides e-content to more than 40 e-commerce sites, including those of leading tablet providers. Commenting on the deal, Russell P. Reeder, president and CEO of LibreDigital, said, "We also see strong potential for new synergies that create added value for publishers, e-reading marketplaces, and digital readers."
As it continues to diversify, Quinlan noted that 10% of Donnelley’s revenue now comes from services.
