Cinram International, an international provider of multimedia services and pre-recorded DVDs, CDs and Blu-Ray discs, announced plans to expand its business in the fast-growing e-publishing and enhanced book app market, working through the expanded Cinram Digital Media Group and newly acquired subsidiary 1K Studios, which specializes in creating enhanced content and mobile and tablet apps for digital download.
Last year, the L.A. based 1K Studios partnered with Penguin Books and Starz Digital Entertainment to create the “amplified edition” of Ken Follet’s novel Pillars of the Earth. 1K Studios specializes in adding rich content, video footage and interactive functionality to traditional book prose and the company will continue to partner with Penguin and is currently at work developing two new projects for the publisher.
Cinram CEO Steve Brown said, “Cinram has always been about delivering ‘todays’ entertainment and today, that includes content on-the-go. Adding book content in the form of e-publishing products and enhanced apps is a logical move with our extensive entertainment and publishing background. We’re confident with 1K at the helm, that we will develop and deliver some of the best experiences in the category.”
