Random House Children’s Books has entered into a partnership with digital developer Smashing Ideas to create book-based children's apps for mobile devices. Based in Seattle, Smashing Ideas has worked with companies like Mattel and PBS Kids and is a developer of digital products and interactive experiences aimed at the youth market.
No details were available about when the first products will be available or what books or series may be adapted. Both parties noted the fast sales growth of digital content through app stores. Steve Jackson, president and CEO of Smashing Ideas, pointed to Random House’s “state-of-marketplace understanding of children’s book content, brands and their audiences,” and Madeline McIntosh, president, sales, operations, and digital at Random House, said she was “excited to work with an experienced partner to build upon our shared expertise.”
