Recently, an SNL star filmed a read-aloud of his picture book, middle grade authors came together for an event, a graphic novel character came to life for a launch, and guests welcomed a graphic novelist.

A Very ‘Bunny’ Joke

On March 2, KidLit TV welcomed Saturday Night Live actor, comedian, and author Kenan Thompson to film an episode of its digital Read Out Loud series at the KidLit TV studios in New York City. Thompson gave a reading of his picture book debut, Unfunny Bunny (Feiwel and Friends), which was co-written with Bryan Tucker and illustrated by Tony Neal. The story follows titular Bunny, who hopes to impress his peers with his comedic skills on his first day of school, but struggles when his jokes don’t land. Here, Thompson (c.) is joined by the KidLitT team, who donned bunny ears for the occasion.

Spies in the City

Last month, James Ponti was given a warm welcome from BBGB Books in Richmond, Va., where he presented the latest installment in his middle grade series City Spies. In Europa (Aladdin/ S&S), the seventh book in the series, the City Spies split up across Europe to unravel an array of riddles to prevent a foe from attacking the continent. Ponti (l.) was joined by fellow middle grade author Meg Medina (r.) for a conversation and book signing.

Yu & Me & Tubby

Co-creators Jenine Pastores (l.) and Josh Jackson dropped by Yu & Me Bookstore in New York City on February 24 for the launch of their graphic novel series starter The Adventures of Tubby Nugget (Penguin Workshop). The story follows Tubby Nugget, who realizes he wants to follow a different path than his fellow nuggets, and takes off on his own adventure. Pastores and Jackson brought along Tubby for young guests to meet.
