Hello, Governor!
On June 28, a special guest made an appearance during Laura Lavoie’s book signing at The Bookstore Plus in Lake Placid, N.Y. Governor of New York Kathy Hochul dropped by the store to get a copy of Lavoie’s picture book Cousins! (Roaring Brook) for her granddaughter. Day and Night
Author Molly X. Chang made an appearance on Good Morning America on July 7, to celebrate that her YA fantasy novel The Nightblood Prince (Random House) was selected as Good Morning America's July YA Book Club pick. She was in the New York City studio in for an interview about the book’s inspiration and her top beach reads. The Nightblood Prince follows Fei, a teen who is destined to marry the kingdom’s Crown Prince until she encounters a runaway prince of a rival kingdom of vampires who promises her freedom. Teach the Hope
The National Marine Educators Association welcomed author Patricia Newman to its annual conference, which took place June 29 through July 3 in Lafayette, La., for a presentation titled “Teach the Hope.” Newman shared her picture book Giant Rays of Hope (Millbrook) as a case study as an example of personal connections to nature and discussed the role ecological concepts play in developing solutions to environmental problems. “Teach the Hope integrates our personal connection to and gratitude for nature with narrative nonfiction children’s literature featuring successful civic role models,” Newman said during her presentation.
