Hitting the Road

Becky Albertalli (c.) celebrated the launch of her latest YA romance Amelia, If Only (HarperCollins) with an event at the Paramus, N.J., location of Barnes & Noble on June 10. Amelia If Only centers around titular star Amelia, who talks her best friends into a road trip to meeting her favorite YouTuber and falls in love along the way. Albertalli spoke with author Brian D. Kennedy (l.) and bookstagrammer Sara Ladner (known online as @tri.state.reader) about the new book and signed copes for attendees. Here, Ladner, Albertalli and Kennedy during their conversation.


Fantasy Fighters

On June 14 Children's Book World in Haverford, Pa, gave author Lauren Magaziner a warm welcome for the launch event of her new middle grade fantasy series, The Incorruptibles (Aladdin). The book follows tween Fiora who joins Inc Academy, a school that trains resistance fighters in a world where sorcerers rule. Magaziner was joined by fellow author Amanda Foody for a conversation about crafting fantasy stories. Here, Magaziner with all the sweet treats brought for attendees to enjoy.


Meeting a Friend

The Eric Carle Museum in Amherst, Mass., opened a new exhibition, The Art of Grace Lin: Meeting a Friend in an Unexpected Place on June 14. The retrospective of author and illustrator Grace Lin showcases more than 80 of the creator’s works ranging from art, sketches, manuscripts, and videos. Support All Around

The Curious Cat Bookshop in Winsted, Conn. welcomed Kimm Topping (c.) for a Pride event highlighting their nonfiction book Generation Queer (Lee & Low), on June 11. The book, illustrated by Anshika Khullar, highlights 30 young activists and their contributions to their causes and community. Topping’s agent Lauren Scovel (l.) and Stacy Whitman (r.), the book’s editor and Curious Cat Bookshop owner, made an appearance in support.


An ‘Ambitious’ Day

Linsey Miller (r.) celebrated the launch of her YA fantasy novel, That Devil, Ambition (HarperCollins) with an event at BookPeople in Austin, Tex., on June 9. The dark academia book follows Fabian Galloway and his peers who must pass their honors class by killing their devil professor. Miller was joined in conversation with fellow author Jasmine Skye Miller (l.), and they donned graduation hoods and robes inspired by the book’s dark academia setting.


A Special Gift

Author Alan Silberberg (l.) attended writer and podcaster Zibby Owens’s seasonal luncheon at her home in New York City Silberberg gave Owens a signed copy of his picture book The Bagel Who Wanted Everything (Viking), which was selected for Zibby Media’s Summer Reads list. The picture book follows a plain bagel in pursuit of becoming more flavorful.
