Woman of the Year

On May 31, the Women’s National Book Association held its national meeting, honoring Judy Blume with the WNBA Award, given biannually for outstanding work. Accepting the award on Blume’s behalf was (from l.) Cheryl L. Davis, general counsel of the Authors Guild, WNBA Award co-chair NC Weil; national president Elise Marie Collins, N.Y.C. chapter president Rachel Slaiman, and past president Natalie Obando.


And They Were Engaged!

At his launch event at romance bookstore Ripped Bodice in Brooklyn, N.Y. for YA rom-com, And They Were Roommates, Page Powars (r.) took the moment to propose to his partner Shannon (l.) in front of an audience. Powars invited guests to flip to the book’s dedication, which read, “For Shannon, my classmate-turned-Valentine, will you marry me?” Here, the engaged couple celebrate together.


A Gift from Students

Jacqueline Davies traveled to Exeter, N.H., to speak to more than 400 third through fifth grade students at Stratham Memorial School, as part of her book tour for the new graphic novel adaptation of The Lemonade War (Clarion). The adaptation, illustrated by Karen De La Vega, follows competitive siblings Evan and Jessie as they race to see who can create a more lucrative lemonade stand. Here, Davies enjoys lemonade art created by students, which lined the school walls.


All A-Board

On May 5, Jon Klassen (r.) made an appearance at Literary Arts in Portland, Ore., to celebrate his trio of board books: Your Farm, Your Forest, and Your Island (Candlewick). “The Art of the Board Book” conversation was moderated by fellow children’s book creator Carson Ellis (l.)


Up All Night

Cecilia Vinesse took to Instagram Live on June 1 to discuss All-Nighter (Quill Tree), her new YA rom-com about a high school valedictorian and a class slacker working together on prom night. An Amazing Adventure

BookPeople in Austin, Tex., welcomed Meredith Davis on May 24 for a book launch for The Minor Rescue, the second installment of her The Amazing Adventures of Noah Minor series. Illustrated by Billy Yong, the story follows the titular tween as he travels to New York to save a group of kidnapped kids from his evil great-uncle. Here, Davis signs a book for a young reader.
