Dinner Theater

In honor of the mid-Autumn Moon Festival, author-illustrator Grace Lin appeared at an event with students from the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School in Hadley, Mass., held at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Mass. The students gave a Reader’s Theater performance, inspired by a story in Lin’s new book Chinese Menu: The History, Myths, and Legends Behind Your Favorite Foods (Little, Brown), in which she chronicles the origins of the most ubiquitous dishes in American Chinese restaurants. Someday in New York

Presidential inaugural poet Amanda Gorman (c.) and Caldecott Honor-winner Christian Robinson (r.) held an event for their picture book collaboration Something, Someday (Viking) on September 26 at Symphony Space in New York City. Author Renée Watson (l.) moderated the evening of poetry and conversation.


An Unstoppable Duo

Author Frances Cha (r.) celebrated the launch of her debut picture book, The Goblin Twins (Crown), at McNally Jackson Seaport in New York City on September 9. Cha’s editor Phoebe Yeh (l.) joined her for a discussion about the book, which tells the story of two ancient goblins traveling to NYC for a Halloween adventure.


Pasadena Plays Up YA

On September 23, the Pasadena Public Library welcomed guests to its annual Pasadena Loves YA book festival. This year’s event featured appearances by 17 young adult authors, a series of panels, book signings, and a book giveaway. Look No Further Than Middle Grade

On September 19, Lindsay Lackey (l.) launched her new middle grade novel Farther Than the Moon (Roaring Brook) at Books Inc. in Campbell, Calif. Fellow middle grade author Lisa Moore Ramée joined Lackey for a conversation, and the event closed with a q&a.


Here, Kitty!

Illustrator Brittany Cicchese made an appearance at Second Star to the Right in Denver on October 3 for the launch of her picture book The Kitten Story: A Mostly True Tale, written by Emily Jenkins. The book follows the ups and downs of a family as they search for the perfect cat to bring home.
