It’s My Day

Chasten Buttigieg (c.), husband of U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, kicked off his national tour promoting his new book, I Have Something to Tell You—For Young Adults (Atheneum), with an event on May 10 at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. Buttigieg was surprised by the announcement by Mayor London Nicole Breed that May 10 was declared “Chasten Buttigieg Day” in San Francisco. From Page to Screen

Dave Eggers (l.) made an appearance at New York City’s Symphony Space on May 11 to discuss his latest novel for young readers, The Eyes and The Impossible (Knopf), with actor and director Ethan Hawke. Illustrated by Shawn Harris, the book for middle graders follows one dog’s quest to free his bison friends from captivity. See our interview with Eggers here.


Let’s Talk ‘Theory’

Nic Stone (r.) made an appearance at the Bing Crosby Theater in Spokane, Wash., for the Spokane-Review’s Northwest Passages Reading Series on April 27. Stone held a conversation with former NAACP Spokane president Kiantha Duncan about her latest YA book, Chaos Theory (Crown).

Actor and director Vincent D’Onofrio (l.) appeared on NBC-TV’s New York Live on May 16 to discuss his picture book, Pigs Can’t Look Up (Abrams), illustrated by Shelly Cunningham. Here D’Onofrio appears with New York Live anchor Sara Gore in front of artwork from the book.


‘Open’ for Fun

On May 12, publisher Nosy Crow Inc. held an Open House event in Lincoln, Mass., welcoming guests to an evening of live music, sweet treats, and fun games. The U.K. house recently launched a U.S. company, with its first list out this spring.


Pups A’Plenty

Author-illustrator Andrea Cáceres celebrated her debut picture book My Dog Just Speaks Spanish (Candlewick) with a dog-friendly event held on May 9 at Boris & Horton, a dog cafe in New York City. Cáceres gave a reading, signed copies of the book, and distributed pet doodles to guests.
